How to Root the Pantech Flex (P8010)

The Pantech Flex is a mid-range AT&T device that was released back in September 2012 and boasts of features such as a dual-core 1.5GHz CPU with 1GB RAM, a 4.3 inch display and an 8MP camera with flash.  But did you always feel you could get something more out of this device?  You felt right and rooting it is the way to squeeze that little extra out of it.  The guide below should help you achieve this with ease and if you are okay with voiding your warranty for the sake for extra privileges on your phone, read on.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  Charge your device to 75% or more and ensure that you have backed up everything of importance before you start.

2.  Make sure that you have the necessary drivers installed to prevent problems during the procedure.  If you haven’t already done so, installing the Pantech PC Suite should take care of this.

II.  Necessary Downloads

III.  Rooting the Pantech Flex

1.  Extract Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v26.zip to a folder on your desktop.

2.  Connect your device to your PC with USB Debugging enabled in MTP mode.  To do this, go Settings > Development Options and tick the USB debugging checkbox.

3.  From the extracted folder, double-click on RunMe.bat to start the process.

4.  Follow the on-screen instructions.

5.  During the procedure, you should see restore option pop up on your device.  Select restore.

Your phone should now reboot twice and once it is done rebooting, you should have root access!  To verify this, look for the Superuser app in your app drawer or download the Root Checker app from Play store.

  2. Hi there, hope you can help. AT&T Pantech Flex, Android 4.1.2 (AT&T pushed), Kernel 3.4.0, Build No. JZO54K. Here is what happens: I select option 1, it does the backup & restore OK, then after reboot I get “Mount: operation not permitted” and it hangs there. When I start I have the USB Settings in MTP mode. The *only* way to get past the “operation not permitted” is to switch the USB Settings to “External Memory/SD Card”. So then I get “device not found” several times (and I understand WHY, I just don’t know how to fix!), and then at “Going to copy files to its place” I again get “error: device not found”. It reboots, I restore my data, and everything is as it was before. I can post you a screen shot if that will help. Is there something I’m missing? Thanks!

      1. No, I didn’t. It has become an academic question for me, however, since I lost the phone on a business trip & replaced it w/ something else. Thanks though!
