How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE

Recently, the root access on the Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE smartphone has been achieved, thanks to the developers over at XDA Forum. Just like its other variants, the Galaxy S2 HD LTE can now be rooted to get access to the Root-only apps as well as to modify the system files. Following is the procedure to root your Galaxy S2 HD LTE smartphone, follow each step carefully to successfully root your phone.

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have installed ClockworkMod Recovery on your smartphone before doing this procedure. Please head to our how to install ClockworkMod Recovery on Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE smartphone procedure first, finish it, then return to this procedure and continue.

2. You will lose your phone’s warranty if you root. However, the lost warranty can be gained back by either applying stock firmware or unrooting your phone.

3. Please make sure that your phone is charged at least 60%. This is to ensure an uninterrupted rooting process.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Download the Rooting Package from here.

III. Rooting Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE Smartphone:

1. Place the Rooting Package ZIP archive onto your Desktop. Do NOT extract files from it.

2. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable.

3. Transfer the Rooting Package ZIP file to your phone’s SD card root folder. It is the topmost folder.

4. Disconnect your phone from the PC after the file transfer has been completed.

5. Turn OFF your smartphone using the Power key.

6. Reboot your phone into the ClockworkMod Recovery by pressing and holding Volume UP+Volume DOWN+Power keys together.

7. Release all the keys you pressed when the Samsung logo appears on your screen.

8. When you enter the recovery mode, choose install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.

9. Select the Rooting Package ZIP file which you copied to your phone earlier for flashing.

10. After it has finished flashing the file, go back to main menu of the recovery and choose reboot system now.

Congrats ! You have successfully rooted your Galaxy S2 HD LTE smartphone. The Superuser app should now be present in your phone’s menu to provide system-access to other apps.

If this procedure helped you, then please head to the official thread over at XDA Forum to thank/donate to the original developer of this root method !

    • Mahesh Makvana

When you boot into the recovery mode, just toggle “signature verification” to OFF. It should solve your problem

      Thanks !

      • Chris

I have the Bell SGH-i757m I think the Clockworkmod installed but when I go to Root the device and apply the update i get a message saying E: signature verification failed Installation aborted. Not sure what to do now??? Help please.

        • Dax Krishna

Chris, check Mahesh’s previous comment on toggling signature verification!

          • Jerry

You keep saying this, but it is probably the same as my issue. CWM is not installing even though Odin says it did. I tried to post a picture but for some reason it didn’t take.

  • Tongjun Zhang

The andriod system version in my smartphone is 4.0.3

  • Deepak

    Dear Mahesh,
Does this work on galaxy s2 shv e120s (korean model), Also pls tell me if i can use the clockwork mod recovery according to your post on CWM recovery in my phone. Thanks

    • Mahesh Makvana

      Hello Deepak,

The above procedure works on the Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE (SGH-I757M) only. You shouldn’t try it on your device as you may brick it.

Hope you got the answer to your questions !

  • remplen

Can’t get this to work at all. For one: there’s now menu option labelled ‘Install .zip from SDcard,’ or the other one titled ‘choose .zip from SDcard.’ Oh well.

    • Mahesh Makvana

Could you please clarify what issue are you facing?

  • SYK

How long does it take to get to the Recovery mode? I left mine for around 5 minutes and nothing happened and couldn’t turn the phone on until I took the battery out

    • Dax Krishna

actually, not much time at all SYK, are you sure you are holding the right buttons?

    • Mahesh Makvana

      Hi Peter,

Please see the title once again, it’s about ROOTING the device, not unlocking it.

The above guide shows you how you can ROOT your device so you can install root-only apps on it.

      • jay

  • Radhika

  • jay

could it factory unlock the phone???

    • Mahesh Makvana

Nop, it just roots the device so you can install root-only apps and change system files.

  • Jerry

Ok, I have tried to root my phone 6 TIMES! and it still says Android system recovery for the recovery system. When I try to root it, I get E:signiture verification failed. There is no togle for the signature, probably because the CWM recovery is not being added to the phone even though Odin says it was successful. Anyone have any ideas what is wrong? I have ICS 4.01 as well, which was the update from Samsung Kies for Bell.

    • Alex

I’m having the same issues and can’t figure out what is going wrong.

    • tase25

I’m also having the same issues. So annoying!

  • sajeel

will this work for SHV-E120K version 4.0.4 (korean)

    • Hamza Ahmed

      I think not Saj sama

  • Fakhar Hussain

does it work on version 4.1.2??

  • tase25

I’ve flashed CWM through Odin successfully like 3 times now, but when I boot into recovery mode it doesn’t recognize that it’s there. It just loads the standard Android recovery.

    Anyone else have this problem?

  • nauman hassan

who can i formate korian programs from my samsung s2 hd lte

  • Omar Kassam

CWM says that the rooting is complete after i installed the zip file however when I run root checker it says that my device does not have root. Any ideas to why this might be happening? Running stock android 4.1.2.

  • Em Dung Di

damn it. my device is shv-120l, android ver 4.1.2. after “install ClockworkMod Recovery” the logo “samsung” appear and dissappear and nothing then, my phone breaked.

  • arslan

thanku yhanku thanku somuch u are awesome man

  • bbogie

When I boot into CWM, and I click “apply update from external storage” then I click on the zip folder it loads and then I get the “E:signature verification failed”… I followed both procedures 100%. What is going wrong?
