How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (AT&T)
Got a shiny new Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket from AT&T and wondering how you could go about rooting it? No problem, here’s how you can root your device. Being one of the finest smartphones by Samsung, the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket was rooted within a short span of time and it looks like we now have a custom recovery as well as some other custom development for the device. First thing first, let’s see how you can root your Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (AT&T):
I. Before You Begin:
1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.
2. This procedure works on Windows based PCs only.
II. Downloading Required Files:
1. Odin
3. Superuser
III. Rooting the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (AT&T):
1. Download and place all three files onto your Desktop.
2. Extract files from the Odin archive over to your Desktop.
3. Double-click on the Odin executable file and it’ll open.
4. Click on PDA and select the TWRP Recovery file you placed earlier on your Desktop.
5. Make sure you haven’t checked Repartition box in the tool.
6. Checkmark the boxes that say Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.
7. Turn OFF your device.
8. Pull the battery out of your device and put it back in after a few seconds.
9. Connect one end of the USB cable to your PC, leave the other end as is.
10. Press and hold the Volume UP+Volume DOWN buttons on your device.
11. While keeping the above buttons pressed, connect the other end of the USB cable to your device.
12. Press the Volume UP button to get into the Download mode.
13. You’re in Download mode now.
14. Hit Start in Odin and it’ll begin flashing the recovery on your device.
15. Once Odin has flashed the recovery on your device, your device will automatically reboot.
16. Now copy the Superuser zip file over to the root of your SD card.
17. Once the file’s been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
18. Turn OFF your device.
19. Turn it back on by holding down Volume UP+Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.
20. You should be in custom recovery mode now.
21. Select Install and choose the Superuser zip to be installed on your device.
22. It’ll begin installing the zip on your device, shouldn’t take more than a minute to finish.
23. Once the zip has been flashed, reboot your device.
24. Open the Superuser app from your App Drawer and update the binaries.
25. And you should be rooted now!
Excellent! Your Galaxy S2 Skyrocket has been successfully rooted and you can now load your favorite root-only apps on it without any issues!
IV. Flash a Custom Recovery Image (Optional):
1. If you would like to flash a custom recovery image in order to flash custom ROMs, head to the How To Flash a Custom Recovery Image on the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (AT&T) to learn how to do that.
If this procedure helped you please thank/donate to the original developers here.
During which step is the SGS2 turned back ON? It is not turned back on by holding the two Volume buttons in steps 10 or 12.
I was wondering that myself. Did you ever figure that out? After putting the battery back in, do I just turn it on first?
After putting the battery back in, you need to turn ON your device in recovery mode by holding down the key combination mentioned in the procedure.
Checking further, found out the following:
– to enter into download mode: hold Volume Down button and the Home soft key, and simultaneously press the Power button
– from within Odin, installing the TWRP file fails with message “Complete (Write) operation failed”
Conclusion: Useless guide

TWRP Recovery file is corrupt for me. Re-downloaded multiple times, same conclusion every time. As a disc image file, Odin does not recognize it. Any suggestions?
Is there anyway to unroot the device?
on step 19 my phone isn’t going into custom recovery mode. it just vibrates every few seconds. then when i let go of the buttons it boots up normally.
twrp shows as an exe file for me. Same with superuser. What gives? I smell a virus.
