How to Root (and Unroot) the Toshiba Folio 100
The Toshiba Folio 100 surfaced almost two years ago now and was one of the first tablets to come with a dual-core Tegra 2 processor at that point. Fast forward to 2012 and the device is still running Android 2.2 with no more official support for the device, which is really a shame because the Folio 100 could handle ICS or even Jelly Bean very well if given a chance. We’ll show you in this post how to root the Folio 100, taking that very first step to flashing a custom ROM that is far more useful and recent than the onboard Froyo OS.
I. Before You Begin
1. Make sure that you have at least 75% of battery charge before you begin.
2. You should have Android SDK and ADB set up before you start with this procedure. If you are unsure about this, refer to our setup guide to help you. Once done with that, make sure that you download USB Driver for Windows package through the SDK Manager.
3. Back up any data you feel is important before you begin.
4. This procedure is designed to work with the Windows 7, so make sure you try this only on a PC running Windows 7.
II. Installing the NVIDIA USB Driver
While the rooting procedure is pretty straightforward, your PC should first be able to detect the Folio 100 with USB Debugging enabled. The steps below will ensure that:
1. Go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Android\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver (where %username% should be replaced by the windows username you have installed the Android SDK with) and open a file called android_winusb.inf using Notepad or any other simple text editing application.
2. Look for a section called [Google.NTx86] and add the following to the very end of the section:
;NVIDIA Tegra
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0955&PID_7000
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0955&PID_7100&MI_01
3. Go to the section called [Google.NTamd64] and add the same code you see above to the very end of that section.
4. Save and close the file.
5. Hit the Windows + R keys on your keyboard, type in cmd and hit enter to open up a command prompt window.
6. Type the following command: echo 0x955 >> “c:\users\%username%\.android\adb_usb.ini (Replace %username% with the username you are currently logged on to Windows with).
7. Close the command prompt window and reboot your PC.
And you’re done!

I’ve tried downloading this file SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse.zip from several places including http://download.cnet.com. When it is finished downloading my browser says it is a malicious file. Is there a safe location to download it from?
shortfuse.org is the best place to download it Wayne, it is the developer’s own site. Also, most antivirus programs will flag this as malicious due to its nature and what it does, so not to worry, but be sure to download it from shortfuse
