How to Setup Moto Assist on the Moto X (2014)

There’s a lot of talk around the web about automated homes, and that’s a cool concept — but we’re not ready for that. We need to talk about automating that thing you have in your pocket or bag. That’s right, you can automate your phone! Well, if you have a Moto X (2014), that is.

Setting up and using Moto Assist is a great way to have your central life hub (yeah, your phone!) do those little things to make life easier. Here’s how to set it up:

1. Open your app drawer tray from the home screen.

2. Find and open the Moto app.

3. Select the gear icon in the top right.

4. Select Assist.

From here, you’re met with four options: Sleeping, Driving, Home, and Meeting. Sleeping lets you better manage notifications and the active screen while you’re asleep. Driving will read your messages to you, or launch your favorite music app while you drive.

Home will read messages to you, and Meeting will read your calendar appointments so it knows when you don’t want to be bothered. Hey, I don’t want people talking to me during Boardwalk Empire, either.

We’d highly recommend setting up the Driving portion of Assist, if nothing more. Staying safe on the road is important, and you might be surprised how handy it is to have messages read to you. Hands-free driving is typically a law (not in every state yet), but even if it’s not — please act like it is for your own safety.

Are you using any of these Assist features? Which is your favorite? Let us know in the comments section below!
