How To Unroot the HTC One (Video)
Maybe you messed up your new HTC One? Maybe the SIM tray won’t accept your SIM and you want to send it in for warranty? Or maybe you just want to go back to stock after playing with rooted apps, ROMs, and the like? No problem. Using Hasoon2000’s toolkit, we can easily unroot just like we rooted. This will allow us to get the HTC One back to stock with a locked bootloader and have it back to how it was before we started tinkering with it. Here’s how.
I. Before You Begin
1. You must have a Windows PC to use this toolkit
2. All credit goes to Hasoon2000, the developer of this toolkit, I simply simplified the instructions to make it easier for people to be able to use this incredible program. All links point directly to his own forum posts and not directly to downloads in an effort to keep his work his. If this procedure helped you in anyway, please consider donating or at least thanking the original program creator here.
II. Download and Install the Toolkit
1. Head to the developer’s post here and scroll down to the second post and click on the link to get to all his toolkits listed under Downloads. Click on the device you have and select the latest tool kit for that device. Save it to your desktop.
2. Download and install WinRAR.
3. Extract the Toolkit .rar file and make sure to extract it to your C: drive and not inside any other folders (simplifies and corrects some flaws in the toolkit with file paths).
III. Install the Drivers (if they aren’t already installed)
1. Open the Toolkit.
2. On the left, select Install HTC Drivers and click Go.
3. Let the drivers install.
4. On your HTC One, pull down the notification bar and select the gear in the top right corner to get to settings.
5. Select Developer Options and turn them ON.
6. Turn ON USB Debugging.
7. Plug in the HTC One via USB.
IV. Relock the Bootloader
1. In the toolkit, select Relock Bootloader and click Go.
2. Close the first command prompt and wait for the device to reboot into fastboot mode.
3. Once in fastboot, close the command prompt window and a second one will pop up. Once that happens, it will finish relocking the bootloader and the device will reboot again.
4. Close the last command prompt.
V. Flash the Stock Firmware via RUU
1.Select Factory RUU under Useful links in the toolkit and click Go.
2. Choose the RUU for your device and save it to your desktop.
3. Right click the RUU and Run as Administrator.
4. Follow the prompts in the RUU to flash the stock firmware.
Reported Issues:
Issue: If the RUU says there was an error.
Solution: Follow the prompts in the RUU to fix it but when it tells you to power off the device, hold down the power button until the screen turns off (it will immediately turn back on). It won’t do what the RUU expects and restart, instead the same error screen with exclamation points in each corner will come back up. At that point, just plug the device back in and continue with the prompts in the RUU as if it restarted and it’ll try to flash the RUU again.
One quick question. Once you have re locked and installed the ruu does the boot menu look as it did originally before it was rooted, ie say “*** Locked ****” . Can anyone one know that you had it unlocked and that you relocked the bootloader.
Question, there seems to be no RUU.zip with the setup file for 1.31 only for 1.29. Is there a RUU for 1.31??
