HTC Desire ready for a Gingerbread update in late April/early May

Three UK has recently announced that it will be pushing out the Android 2.3 update for the HTC Desire very soon, most likely before this month is up or in early May.  The UK carrier has announced the same on Twitter, saying:

Yes there is, it’s coming in for testing on Monday, so end of April early May is the plan.

That’s all well and good for Three UK users, but what about the other anxiously waiting Desire lovers? It seems that they should be getting the update around the same time period too.  Carriers across Europe are expected to roll out the update after their own testing, while unlocked users can expect it to land a bit more earlier.  As for the rest of the world, taking into account these latest developments, it may not have to wait long.
