How to Install Custom Recovery on the Qmobile Noir Quatro Z4

Okay, so you are rooted and have played around your device a little bit like never before.  Now what?  Why, flashing custom ROMs of course (provided there are any).  We covered rooting the Quatro Z4 recently and if you are looking to install custom recovery (ClockworkMod Recovery in this case, a very popular custom recovery), look no further.  The guide below should have you covered in that respect and you should be off to flashing custom ROMs (again, if there are any) very soon.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  Make sure that you have the necessary drivers installed before you start.

2.  Charge your device to 75% or more before you begin to prevent unwanted shutdowns during the procedure.

3.  Back up anything you feel is necessary just in case.

4.  You will need to be rooted for this procedure to work.  If aren’t already, use our guide to help you.

II.  Necessary Downloads

1.   Mobileuncle MTK Tools

2.  Z4_CWM__Recovery.img [Download link available under Step #3 of this post]

III.  Installing Custom Recovery on the Quatro Z4

1.  Connect your device to your PC and copy Z4_CWM__Recovery.img to your device’s SD card (do not put it into any subfolders, just copy and paste it into the main folder).  Also, make sure there are no other .img files in this location and if there are any, delete them.

2.  Open up the newly installed Mobileuncle MTK Tools app from your app drawer.  Give root access when prompted.

3.  Tap on Recovery and you should be provided with a list of .img files on your SD card.

4.  Tap on Z4_CWM__Recovery.img to begin the flashing process.

5.  Once flashed, reboot your device.

Your Qmobile Noir can now make/restore backups, flash unauthorized zip files and do much more than before!

  1. Hi Dax,

I am experiencing a challenge in trying to install Custom Recovery for my Qmobile Noir Quatro Z4. I have downloaded Z4_CWM_Recovery.img and saved it in Directory -> Phone Storage. But when I launch Mobileuncle, and then select Recovery Update; I cannot see Z4_CWM_Recovery appearing on the list of Recovery files that come up.

Am I saving the file in the correct folder or is there a problem? I have followed your steps for rooting and have managed to do so successfully.

    Kind assist resolve this challenge.

    Kind regards,

    Collen
