Nexus One and Nexus S get updated OTA to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread

We have got some happy news to share with our Nexus One/S readers.  Over the coming weeks, Google is rolling out the 2.3.3 update (Gingerbread, again) and Nexus S users will now be able to not only read tags but also write them – the device will also have the ability to act as a tag in itself.  It will also endow the Nexus S with basic peer-to-peer NFC communication.  The update might fix the random reboot and signal loss bugs which is yet to be confirmed, as the version notes fail to make a mention of this particular problem.

Another major change is that the OS will no longer sync contacts with Facebook – Google has now revoked the permissions Facebook previously used to circumvent apps that are usually required to the contacts API.

While this OTA update may not bring much to Nexus S users, Nexus One users definitely have a reason to celebrate as this will be their first real official taste of the Gingerbread.  Look out for that notification in the next few weeks!

  1. I must say I’ve had all 3 iphones and even though I loved the dam thing I got really tired of jailbreaking them just to have features that my nexus one came with standard and now I don’t have to be moding my phone to have multitasking features or standard GPS navigation etc…
