Nexus S Specs, Release Date, and Pricing Officially Revealed

So finally Google/Samsung have officially announced the Nexus S.

It will be released December 16th at all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores in the US and December 20th in the UK. In the States it will cost $199 on a 2 year contract w/ T-Mobile and $529 unlocked without contract. Here are the official specs:

4″ WVGA Super AMOLED Display
Triband HSPA (No HSPA+)
5.0MP Camera
16GB of Internal Storage
1Ghz Cortex A8 Hummingbird Processor
512mbs of RAM
Gyroscope
VoIP Support
Front Facing Camera
Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Now, is it just me or are these a little too similar to the original Nexus One? Except maybe a slightly larger screen (4.0 instead of 3.7) , Gyroscope (instead of accelerometer) front facing camera…

Guessing this wasn’t meant to really compete with the original Nexus as more of a rehash for users that never bought the original Nexus (since it was discontinued and reserved for developers only). Or perhaps this is a test by Google to see if they can sell a Nexus through physical stores?

Anyone think it’s enough to switch from the Nexus if you already have one?

  1. Nope. Not worth it to me. I’m going to hold out for something with a better screen resolution, and more than 1ghz processor. Just not a big enough step up, and my N1 works just fine. Give me Gingerbread though please!

  2. no hspa+?..uuuhhh NO..held off on the mt4g for this one but this is jus dissappointing…im hoping these aren’t the final specs…

  4. Ya, I have to agree. All phones from T-Mobile from now on should support HSPA+, that should be a given (even though this isn’t technically a T-Mobile phone, it should have HSPA+ the minute they put the 1700mhz frequency in the phone).
