Rumor: Motorola readying a rugged tablet?

The idea of a rugged tablet is laudable and we could think of many situations where such a device would be a boon.  Motorola, according to the latest rumors, is working on just the kind of device and marrying the processing power of the Xoom and the immunity to withstand the rigors of nature as well as harsh human treatment seems like a great idea.  And with the sturdy Defy under its belt, Motorola is definitely equipped to apply the same (if not better) principles to the rumored tablet.

Apparently, the damage-proof device will feature a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 7 gigs of internal storage, a 7-inch transmissive 1024×600 touchscreen display and a slew of connectivity options including HDMI out.  There will also be an 8MP shooter with a secondary 1.3-megapixel camera for video chatting.  On the OS side of things, the device is said to come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which seems like a huge letdown with Honeycomb Android 3.0 already out, but this is still the rumor phase, so the device could very well come with the tablet-tailored OS if and when it is announced/released.

No details on a price point or a release date have been dug up, but now that the whispers of a rugged Motorola tablet have been heard, we expect to hear more in the coming weeks.
