How to Unroot the Sony Xperia Arc

Perhaps you’re done playing with root and custom ROMs on your Android device? Regardless of the reason, it’s usually pretty easy to unroot your device and go back to the stock firmware.

Some of the reasons for unrooting your Sony Xperia Arc are:

• Sending in the device for warranty (most, but not all unrooting procedures reinstate the manufacturer warranty if you had one before rooting).
• Starting over (simply undoing everything you did while rooted so you can have a clean slate to start over).
• Fix any issues (Maybe rooting messed something up? No problem, unrooting will take care of it for you).

Ready to get started? Here’s how to unroot the Sony Xperia Arc:

I. Before You Begin

1. You should have rooted your device using the procedure given here.

2. This should flash the original firmware onto your device.

3. This only works on Windows based PCs.

II. Downloading Required Files

1. Download Flashtool and save it to your Desktop.

2. Download the appropriate firmware for your device and save it to your Desktop.

III. Unrooting the Sony Xperia Arc

1. Extract files from Stock Firmware by right-clicking on it and selecting Extract here.

2. Double-click on Flashtool setup and go through the installation wizard to install it on your PC.

3. Copy Stock Firmware (.ftf) from your Desktop over to the firmwares folder available where you installed Flashtool.

4. Double-click on Flashtool executable and it’ll open.

5. Click on Thunder icon and select Flashmode, then hit OK.

6. You’ll now see all the firmwares available inside the firmwares folder. Click on the name of your device’s firmware and hit Flash.

7. Turn OFF your device.

8. Hold down Volume DOWN and plug in your device to your PC.

9. The tool should automatically start the flashing procedure.

10. Once flashing’s done, reboot your device.

11. You’re done!

All set! You are now running stock firmware on your Sony Xperia Arc and have unrooted it.
