Windows Mobile 6.5 To Be Officially Released Soon

So Windows Mobile has been a bit outdated for a while now, what with the iPhones, Androids, etc of the world stealing their market share.
Well, finally, Microsoft has released an update to their operating system; Windows Mobile 6.5. Now, while this may not be Microsoft’s saving grace in the Mobile world (that would be Windows Mobile 7’s job, or so we hear), it is a nice stepping stool to what Microsoft will hopefully turn their Windows Mobile platform into. Some of the new features include:

  • More “finger friendly”
  • Honeycomb start menu
  • New Zune-like homescreen
  • Straight to Voicemail, Text, Missed Calls, etc. from the lock screen when new messages are present
  • New Internet Explorer
  • My Phone (a free auto over the air backup service for contacts, calendars, etc.)
  • Windows Marketplace, one stop shop for all your Windows Mobile apps
  • Microsoft Recite, allows users to record voice notes or search for keywords using their voice

The official release date is now set for October 6th. This update will be available to all 6.5 ready Windows Mobile devices and will come on most new handsets coming out after October.

  1. I actually prefer the lock screen upgrade that comes with WM 6.5. That will come in handy. I hope Touch Flo 3D doesn’t block that out.

    1. Hello Neo,

I loaded a WM 6.5 custom ROM with Touchflo 2.5 onto an HTC Touch Pro and the 6.5 lock screen was present, even with TouchFlo. Not sure if that was just something the ROM cooker put in (cause he feels the same way you do about the lock screen lol) or if HTC has it naturally do that.
