AT&T Windows Phone 7 devices finally deemed ready for NoDo update

While the update was rolled out last month for the rest of the world, AT&T customers were left high and dry with no news on when the NoDo will land on their WP7 devices.   The carrier seems to have decided that the time now is right enough and has started releasing the update to its WP7 devices slowly.  Soon, AT&T users with the Samsung Focus, HTC Surround, and the LG Quantum will be able to copy/paste on their mobile like the rest of the world and have a few other tweaks that were overlooked when the WP7 was originally released.

There is still the question of third-party multitasking, missing still on Windows Phone 7 devices, but Microsoft is planning to remedy this with their next update package codenamed “Mango.”  We don’t understand Microsoft’s newfound naming convention with tropical fruits but then, we don’t get Google’s pastry obsession either.  Anyway, the update is scheduled for a fall 2011 release, but if it follows the same route as the NoDo, we could expect it no more earlier than 2012.

Coming back to NoDo though, AT&T users should see the notification on their device asking them to update OTA or connect their phone to the PC to begin the process.

  1. I connected to Zune last night and received my updates: Samsung Focus update, Feb 2011, and March 2011 Cut and Paste. Took a few hours but definitely made a difference.

  2. I did my update this morning. It took 40min. total to do both the firmware update for the Focus then the WP7 update. Worked like a charm.
