How To Load a Custom ROM on the T-Mobile G2X
That custom recovery is ready to go on your phone? Ready to use it for something? Well, the thing you can do with the most drastic increase in performance and feel you your device would be to load a custom ROM. Not only can you get better performance, different icons, themes, etc. but you can also flash newer versions of Android (how about Gingerbread on your Froyo device, etc.?). So if all that sounds good to you, then let’s show you how to do it.
I. Before You Begin
1. You MUST have done our How To Flash a Custom Recovery Image procedure (and the preceding rooting procedure of course). After you have done those, come back to this procedure to continue.
II. Load a ROM
1. Head over to our ROMs section, choose your device.
2. Select a ROM for your device and save it to your computer (do NOT extract it, leave it as a .zip file).
3. Plug your phone in and mount the internal storage so we can transfer files to it.
4. Copy the ROM .zip file over to the root of the internal storage (NOT in any folders, just on the internal storage or sdcard itself).
5. Turn off the phone.
6. Turn the phone on by holding down Volume Down and Power until Recovery mode comes up.
7. Once in recovery mode, scroll to Backup, then select Backup and wait for the phone to backup its current ROM.
8. Once it is done, select Wipe Data
9. Then select Flash zip from SD Card
10. Select choose zip from sd card.
11. Select the ROM’s zip file you loaded onto the internal storage or sd card earlier and wait for it to flash. Done!
12. (Optional) Repeat to load a different ROM.
Thanks for the video! One thing I noticed, when you performed a wipe, it said “formatting /sd-ext” and “formatting /sdcard/.android_secure”. So my question is will this procedure delete everything from your sd card (pics, music, etc)? Please let me know. Thanks.
@af5503b5c8ef2f0c127cc872caf7feec:disqus No, it does not format the entire sd card. your pics and music will be safe.
So I installed the Cyanogen Mod 7 ROM. Finished everything, went step by step and then when I pushed to “reboot phone now” step it never re booted. So I tried turning it on and now it won’t get past the Cyanogen Mod7 bootloader screen. It just keeps repeating that step… Anything I can do to fix that since my phone isn’t usable??
It’s in a bootloop. Usually happens when the data isn’t wiped. And remember, ALWAYS make a backup. (even making a backup/copy of your SD card on your computer)
Followed the steps as outlined and didnt get the backup data option. When I said to reboot it got stuck and I had to take out the battery to restart, any suggestions?
i am trying to use the eagleblood ROM, i’m working with a microsoft computer. i place the .zip file in the D drive but then when i boot up my phone and click install .zip from sd, that .zip folder doesnt show up.
I had the same problem! Then I tried to flash the clockwork mod back, I went into the respective folder and selected the backup which even had the correct date and time. It kept saying files not found. luckily i just went to restore and was able to get it running. I thought it was sketchy when it told me to put it on the internal sd…
hey did u root this on the gingerbread ota update or 2.2.1
I forgot to do my BACKUP! i know. i made a very BIG mistake. I installed a custom ROM called Nova HD. But i’m still stuck at the LG animation boot logo. any suggestions? Please help me out. Thanks
