Sony Addresses Unlocking Their Devices’ Bootloader and Loading Custom ROMs

Sony has always been against unlocking their bootloaders on their devices (unlocking the bootloader is what allows us to flash custom ROMs, recoveries, etc. onto a device. If it is locked then it is a lot harder to do). However, today, Sony decided to announce that going forward, on certain devices, this will no longer be the case. Over the few last years, Sony Ericsson has received several requests from the Android™ community to allow

Rumor: LG Optimus ‘Big’ for Korea next month?

Aside from the three Optimus line phones and the Quantum showcased at CTIA 2011, it seems like LG might have another biggie ready for a release.  Just called the Optimus “Big” for obvious reasons, this upcoming smartphone is purported to feature a huge 4.3-inch touchscreen using their latest display technology – NOVA.  The same technology has already been employed in LG Optimus Black, which did get lauded for being a lot more brighter pit against

HTC EVO 3D confirmed for France

There were many showstealers at the CTIA this time around, but of them all, what particularly caught our eye was the HTC EVO 3D and guess what, this one may not be too far away from a release.  The French division of the smartphone company has confirmed on Twitter recently that this 3D device will be launched in France soon, although they did forget to specify exactly when.  That’s okay for now, as we at

HTC Incredible to get Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in Q2 2011

Looks like HTC is going to shower some Gingerbread love on its users of older Android phones.  The HTC Incredible, which will turn one this April incidentally, will supposedly get Google’s latest OS update in the next quarter of this year.  The news came about when a support email from the company was leaked, which gives it a bit of credibility, if not our undoubting belief, taking into account the previous announcement of the same

New Generation of Wireless Chargers at CTIA: A Wireless Charging Pad for Any House

So one of the little surprises for me at CTIA, was what a company called Fulton Innovations was showing. Most people are familiar with wireless charging mats. These mats allow you to charge your iPhone or other device with a special case on them by simply setting the device down on the mat; no plugging in required. Also more and more devices are actually being manufactured with this wireless charging technology in them, so no

Samsung at CTIA: Samsung Galaxy S WiFi, Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10

Right after Samsung’s press event on the first day of CTIA, where they unveiled the two new Samsung Galaxy Tabs, the Samsung booth became flooded with people wanting to play with the new tablets. Besides that though, Samsung had plenty of other devices for you to play with including their new iPod Touch competitors, the Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0 and 4.0, and their new Samsung Galaxy S II. Check out the video above

LG at CTIA: The Quantum, Revolution, G2X, and Optimus 3D

LG had an elaborate booth at CTIA. Large TV’s that looked like cell phones rotated around on their own pedestals that were arched around a small stage like something from some futuristic version of Stonehenge. There was definitely no shortage of demo phones, either. There were maybe 12 or so of each device on display (no waiting to play with phones here). But with all this work put in to the booth, did the

Hey guys! TheUnlockr was featured on NPR radio this morning! Kyocera Echo and Swype at CTIA 2011: Echo Demo and Swype’s New Features

Kyocera was at CTIA with a booth, but there was only one device at that booth; the Echo. The Echo is a dual touchscreen device in where the two touchscreens work together as one large touchscreen (kind of like how you can have two monitors for your desktop computer). While there we ran into some Swype representatives who were kind enough to do a quick demo of the Echo for us as well as show

HTC at CTIA 2011: Quick Runthrough of All Their New Devices, Including the HTC Evo 3D & HTC Flyer

HTC didn’t have too many new devices to showcase at CTIA but the ones they did were pretty outstanding. The Evo 3D and the HTC Flyer (Evo View) are the first of these outstanding devices that come to mind. The Evo 3D’s parallax barrier technology worked quite well to show a preloaded 3D movie on the device without the need for glasses and the HTC Flyer, aka Evo View, which I wasn’t too excited

Qualcomm at CTIA 2011: Dual Core Processors, Developer Tools, and App Showcases

One of the first booths at CTIA I saw was Qualcomm. Now it wasn’t because they were close to the entrance or anything like that, but because they’re booth was so large and elaborate that one could see it from almost anywhere on the show floor. I figured if they went through that much trouble, I should probably head over and see what it was all about. Take a look at the video above for

T-Mobile HSPA+ 42Mbps Data Stick Speed Test

At the T-Mobile booth at CTIA, T-Mobile told us they had a brand new data stick that runs on their newly launched 42mbps. So of course, first thing we asked was, “Can we do a speed test?” To which T-Mobile happily replied, “Of course!”. Check out the video above for the speed test in action inside the Conference Center at CTIA 2011 in Orlando. As you can see from the video above, the new
