T-Mobile HSPA+ 42Mbps Data Stick Speed Test

At the T-Mobile booth at CTIA, T-Mobile told us they had a brand new data stick that runs on their newly launched 42mbps. So of course, first thing we asked was, “Can we do a speed test?” To which T-Mobile happily replied, “Of course!”. Check out the video above for the speed test in action inside the Conference Center at CTIA 2011 in Orlando.

As you can see from the video above, the new Rocket 3.0, made by LTE, is well deserving of it’s name. 22mbps downlink definitely blows any Verizon LTE speedtest I’ve ever seen out of the water. In fact, that’s faster download speeds than the U-Verse connection on the computer I’m using right now gets… So, anyone else excited to see this in a phone soon?

  1. I think you mean the Rocket 3.0 is made by ZTE. Not LTE. Just wanted to point that out to clear any confusion.

  2. Personally, there is not much that you need these speeds for, on a phone. Even highquality mp4 videos can be streamed with UMTS/HSDPA.

OTOH, has anybody asked about battery consumption of this new wonder? I mean, even over 5 years after UMTS become common, your best bet for ensuring your smartphone survives the day is to disable UMTS and go for (E)GPRS?

    1. actually, your best bet for your smartphone surviving the day is to buy an android, root it, and install a custom ROM / kernel. i consistently get 18-24 hours on a single charge with the heaviest use i can throw at it. and even got 47 hours on a single charge about a week ago.

HTC Glacier (Tmobile mytouch4g) w/ RoyalGinger v1.4 ROM FTW!!! (XDA forums)

  3. I’ve seen 33mbit connection over verizon’s LTE and was getting over 15mbit upstream. Personally I’ll stick with the Verizon over AT&T.
