TheUnlockr Weekly News – 02.25.11

David from TheUnlockr.com and this is the news for the week ending on february 25th 2011

First updates ab updates.
AT&T has 2 new updates.
Both of which are Android 2.2 Froyo updates.
The first is for the Samsung Captivate which started rolling out on yesterday and has been long awaited since the regular galaxy s has gotten its own 2.2 update some time ago.
And the second is the HTC Aria, which is an older phone I feel like at this point but its nice to see them continuing to update it.
For either of these devices check out AT&T’s Facebook page for how to download it manually.
Keep in mind though that this update is for NON rooted devices, if you are rooted just keep on using that froyo update u undoubtably flash a long time ago. No difference guys. It’s good to root your right?
Some new phone news, the HTC Arrive is Sprint’s first Windows phone 7 device and it will be available March 20th for about $200 on a contract.
Besides that we have the Motorola Atrix, a long awaited device for AT&T. It will be available for as low as $129.99 with a 2 year contract on some sites like Walmart. Which isn’t too bad.
But if you want that cool laptop dock, itll cost about $500 with a contract to get the phone and dock bundle. Which I gotta say is a little pricey for what is essentially a monitor and keyboard but eh.
Without a contract the phone will set you back approximately $500 and the dock itself will also cost $500 separately so the $500 with a contract doesn’t sound as bad in comparison.
Next up we have the HTC Thunderbolt which is Verizon’s first phone to run on their new LTE 4G network. This phone’s release date has been moved further and further back and now the new rumor is a March 10th release at Best Buy according to AndroidCommunity.com but again a rumor people.
Lastly for the new phones news, the Samsung Galaxy S II has shown up on UK retailer Clove.co.uk’s site available for pre-order. The price is a bit steep though, close to $820 USD fgor the 16GB model so not sure if I’d jump on it just yet, but if you just have to make sure its coming regardless of cost, then by all means knock yourself out.

Last bit of news today comes from a decision Google has recently made. Google has decided that future updates of Android will not longer have Facebook contacts show up in your normal contacts list. Not totally sure if that means it’ll just be a separate group in contacts or if they will elliminate Facebook contact syncing with your Google contacts all together (hopefully it’s just the first but well have to see).

  1. can the can the android 2.2 firmware for the HTC Aria be rooted. I rooted my phone and then I seen the 2.2 update on HTC site and download and installed it and now i tried to root my phone but the unrevoked3 flash program says “error: problem flashing your device, is your firmware to new?” or something like that.
