How to Unroot the Galaxy Gear (Video)
When you are done messing around with your Galaxy Gear and want to return it, you’ll need to unroot it. It might seem a bit odd when you return it with an animated live wallpaper and Google Play store frankly. To unroot it, aka get it back to stock, you can use a Samsung firmware flashing program called Odin which makes the whole process pretty painless. Here’s how to unroot the Galaxy Gear and return to stock.
I. Before You Begin
1. This will only work on a Windows computer as the flashing program is made for Windows.
II. Download the Needed Files
1. Download the ABD Drivers here, extract them by right-clicking the .zip file and clicking Extract All, then double click the exe inside and follow the prompts.
2. Download Odin and save it to your Desktop.
3. Download the appropriate stock firmware files from here (US users just choose the BTU, UK file).
III. Put the Gear into Download Mode
1. Hold the power button on the Gear until the Gear says rebooting on the screen.
2. As soon as it says rebooting, quickly tap the power button 5 times while the restart dialog is presentto put the device into recovery mode.
3. Press the power button again to select Download Mode.
4. Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to select Download Mode.
5. Plug the Gear in via USB cable.
IV. Unroot the Galaxy Gear
1. Double-click the drivers .exe file and follow the prompts to install the drivers (if you don’t already have them on your computer from rooting).
2. Extract the Odin file by right-clicking it and selected Extract All.
3. Double-click the Odin file inside the newly extracted folder to open Odin.
4. Right-click on the stock firmware file .zip and select Extract All.
5. In Odin, click the PDA button and then select the .md5 file inside the folder we extracted from the firmware .zip file.
6. Click Start and wait for it to flash.
When it’s all done, the device will reboot and be back to stock.
U mean click on AP button instead of PDA button since there is none on ODIN?
I just did it with the AP button and it worked!
This was not the case for me…. It might be because I was on Null_19. after odin it would just go to the Samsung logo and stick there. I would hold the power down a bunch of times and restart and nothing. So then I rebooted pressed button 3 times and pressed recovery and bam it went to stock. Then I went to settings and presses reset (because that’s what he said in the video) not sure if he missed a part while editing the video or because this video was made back when null_14 was around… idk
Thank you! Mine did the same after using odin to flash stock amk7 after my gear refused to sync with my s4 on null23 and I’ve been tearing my hair out trying to sort it but I did what you said and voila it works again.
Well it got past the Samsung logo but still won’t sync with my s4 argh!
same for me bret haulman null.22.1
How do you go about unrooting or installing a different custom ROM when your galaxy gear is stuck in factory mode? I installed the null 11.1 ROM and have been trying to pair my device with my phone via gear manager, but I’m getting a failed connection message and all I want to do now is return it to stock, so I can use it again. Team Win Recovery is installed on it and it is currently rooted. I do not have any backup ROMs saved to the device or its SD card. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Links to download stock firmware are either dead or removed, either way there is no way to download them currently
Thanks for letting me know. I replaced the link. Try now.
How long it takes to flash and reflect PASS on Odin after clicked start in … Its been more then 30 minutes !!!!!:(
Odin is stuck at Zimage any help
I tried the same process but gear stuck at recovery mode as it encountered issue while upgrading….Odin its not recognizing the devise and samsung live recover tool not recognizing the Gear
Dont bother with the link given here for the stock firmware. The crappy site throttles your download. It said it was going to take 45 min for min. After waiting 10 min it still said 43 min left. So i googled the firmware and downloaded the whole 200 mb file in 2 min.
Do you have a link to where you found it? I’ll replace it here so we don’t have to link to that other site you mentioned 🙂
thanks
