Rumor: HTC Knight aka Speedy to launch on Sprint in January?

The guys over at XDA Forums have unearthed a picture of an upcoming HTC Android device for Sprint, pretty obvious by the big Sprint logo on the right hand top corner of the handset, which will be called Speedy upon its release, although it will answer to the name of Knight too until the release.  The handset features the tell-tale four soft keys (rounded like the ones on Evo 4G) at the bottom and will carry a 3.7-inch touchscreen display and according to XDA’s source, a hinge of some kind which hints at a hidden QWERTY keypad. Now, we would …

Samsung Galaxy Tab coming to Sprint on November 14

If Verizon users are getting theirs on November 11, Sprint customers will need to wait another three days before they can get their hands on the coveted Galaxy Tab.  The official press release is out and the going rate is $399 for the ones eligible for an upgrade and those on the hunt for a new contract.  Unlike Verizon’s single $20 1GB cap plan, Sprint is offering two different options to its customers, either 2GB data transfer with unlimited messaging at $29.99 per month or $59.99 for a month’s worth of unlimited messaging with a 5GB transfer limit. Also offered …

Samsung promos Galaxy 50 YP-G50, an Android-based Player to Compete with the iPod Touch

Color me impressed but I think I just found an Android replacement for my iPod Touch.  With its impressive spec sheet and usable form factor, we are guessing Samsung has another winner on its hands in the Galaxy series.  The player boasts of Android 2.1 (Eclair) OS, a super 3.2-inch AMOLED (capacitive?) touchscreen display supporting 800×480 resolution, WiFi connectivity, and GPS.  The YP-G50 Galaxy 50 will be available in 8 and 16GB variants and also has a microSD slot to give it a bit more of a memory boost.  The only downside we can see is its 2-megapixel lens, which …

Rumor: KOODO Mobile to offer Android devices

KOODO Mobile, the Telus-owned Canadian carrier who provides low-end cellphones on low-end plans is now looking to jump into the Android fray, if rumors are to be believed.   Nothing is concrete yet about what kind of devices or when they will actually be on its lineup, but looking at KOODO’s previous offerings, we would put our bets on low-end Android devices like the Motorola Backflip or the Charm, although it would not be surprising if it did end up adding higher-end Android devices like the HTC Desire or the Legend, just to be fair to its customers in terms of …

Video: Slingplayer puts in an appearance for Windows Phone 7

The apps keep popping up and after Shazam recently, the newest app to surface for the Windows Phone 7 OS is the Slingplayer Mobile, with a lot of improvements over its predecessor on the Windows Mobile platform.  Well, not the actual app but a video of the application working its wares and although it is still a work in progress and has not made it to the Marketplace yet, the Slingplayer Mobile does show quite a lot of promise with “four times the resolution offered on previous Windows Mobile devices” and frankly looking at the video in question, we are …

Android 3.0 to bring Google TV and video chat features

While Froyo is still on its way to many users around the world, we now have news on the next iteration of Google’s OS, Android 3.0 aka the Gingerbread.  As with their names, the features also seem to get sweeter, with the 3.0 version rumored to add more functionality to the already popular mobile operating system at the moment.  The most prominent of these upcoming features will include Google Talk video chat, using the same Talk protocol as the desktop version of the application and the ability to use an Android 3.0-based phone as a remote control for a Google …

Video: Sony Ericsson shows off Android 2.1 on Xperia X10

If it was a video for Froyo, we would have rejoiced but at the moment, even Eclair should be good enough for us.  Sony Ericsson has just put a video of the aging Xperia X10 (currently on 1.6) running on Android 2.1 and the improvements that the newer version offers.  The video has been shot on an updated X10 to show off its HD 720p recording prowess, which actually does seem to do a good job.  Other improvements mainly focus on the UI and here are some: Enhanced Timescape with auto-scrolling of SMS text Improved social contacts with a lot …

Verizon to release Samsung Galaxy Tab on Nov 11

For those of our readers waiting on a release date for the Galaxy Tab in the good ol’ US of A, we have some great news.  Verizon will be adding the popular Android tablet to its shelves next month, November 11th to be exact.  The tablet will be going for $599 (off contract with no subsidy) with a monthly $20 data plan (1GB data transfer), which might sound a bit steep but considering it hides a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor, 3G/WiFi connectivity, front-facing camera for easy video calling and some Froyo goodness inside its beautifully crafted body, the price …

Android 4.0 mobile operating system will be called Ice Cream

Continuing on with Google’s dessert-themed name fetish, it has now come to light that the fourth iteration of the popular Android operating system might simply be called, “Ice Cream.” We have seen the Cupcake (1.5), Donut (1.6), Eclair (2.1) and most recently Froyo (2.2) and following on from these alphabetically, Android 3.0 has already been christened Gingerbread, and 3.5 is supposedly going to be called Honeycomb, so it’s highly likely that the next version will be starting with the alphabet “I.” There is no official confirmation on this yet, but the 4.0 Ice Cream update is rumored to land in …

HTC 7 Pro and HTC 7 Surround promos outed

HTC has jut put up a couple of videos on its YouTube channel showing off its upcoming Windows 7 phones, the HTC 7 Pro and the HTC 7 Surround.  First seen at the Windows Phone 7 launch, the HTC 7 Pro is aimed mainly at business users with its QWERTY keypad, easy email access and the lure of business-oriented apps from HTC.  The phone does look great on the really short video, but it definitely wasn’t short enough for us to not notice that it is going to available exclusively on Sprint in the first quarter of 2011. The HTC …
